Do you tip in CHINA?
As a traveller in China, you may be wondering whether tipping is embedded in Chinese culture. You may be surprised to know that tipping is not a part of the culture, and in fact, leaving a tip in China may actually be taken in the opposite way as it implies that the employee is not valued by the employer.
This is an important distinction to understand as the leaving of a tip in China, though it may be a harmless afterthought by the patron, may seriously dampen the overall experience of the service provided.
In China it is best to avoid leaving a tip altogether, there is however one exception to this rule. Which we will cover below in our comprehensive guide to tipping in China.
So next time you find yourself in China remember, as a rule of thumb you do not need to leave a tip.
